Hello darkness my old friend

In restless dreams I walked alone narrow streets of cobble stone
'neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night and touched the sound of silence

불안한 꿈에서 나 홀로 걸었지
자갈 깔린 좁은 거리의
가로등의 후광 아래서
추위와 안개에 칼라깃을 고치고
밤을 가르는 네온사인의 번뜩임에
내 눈은 찌르듯이 아팠네
만져지는 침묵의 소리

And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people maybe more
people talking without speaking people hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare disturb the sound of silence

발가벗겨진 불빛 속에서 보았네
만명 아니 그보다 더 많은 사람들을
말하지 않고 말하고(대화없이 끼리끼리 이야기)
듣지 않고 듣고(귀기울이지 않고 흘려듣고)
목소리로 나누지 않는 노래를 쓰지
아무도 그 침묵의 소리를 방해할 수 없어

Fools I said I you do not know silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that might teaching you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words like silent rain drops fell
And no one dare and echoed in the wells of silence

바보들, 당신들은 암처럼 자라나는
침묵을 알지 못해요
당신에게 가르치는 이 말을 들어요
내가 당신에게 뻗는 이 팔을 잡아요
하지만 내말은 소리없이 내리는 비같아서
침묵의 우물 안에서 메아리치지

And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning in the words that it was forming
And the signs said
"the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
and tenement halls"
And whisper'd in the sound of silence

사람들은 그들이 만든 네온신에게 절하고 기도하고
그리고 네온이 만들어낸 말 속에서
경고의 표시가 번쩍였어

그 표시는 다음과 같지
"예언자의 말씀은 지하철 벽에
그리고 빈민가 광장에 쓰여져 있다"
침묵의 소리 안에서 속삭이지
